In 1998 I taught myself how to sew by reconstructing my own clothes. Once I became more comfortable with the machine I started having trunk shows and then put on my first fashion show at Murali's in Washington,DC on 7th and Hst. The event brought in about 200 guests and was a success. Since then I have been creating and putting on shows throughout the Washington Metro Area. In 2003, I opened up my first vintage/original designs boutique on Ust, Junction, with 3 other women. Here I showcased my original pieces as well as vintage jewelery and clothing. The store was a was just what the block needed, however after the first year, I decided to leave the business and continue on my own. Since then I have made a name in for my company in Washington,DC, as well as Japan, where I lived for a year and a half learning about Asian style and culture. I recently returned from this fashion sabbatical this past March and have been implementing my new ideas to my designs. Thembe fashions is unique, sexy, classic, and one of a kind. All pieces are hand made. I design for personal clients as well as local talent. My inspiration comes from my travels around the world, geometric shapes and designs, vibrant colors and the want to make clothing that is original and timeless.
